Hope After Broken Dreams
This month's podcast conversation with a Mississippi-based songwriter and storyteller.
Welcome! I’m Bailey, a writer from Northern California, sharing on the mystery of life with God and how to live well even when our deepest longings remain. If you’re new, every other Friday afternoon, I share an essay. As always, I love it when these are two-way conversations—so, please chime in and comment if you feel inspired! :)
Happy Friday, friends!
This is just a short hello to let you know that a new episode of the LISTEN TO YOUR LIFE PODCAST is out this week with my old friend, Matthew Clark. Matthew is a singer-songwriter and author from Mississippi, where he shares his day-to-day life (and morning coffee) with his brother, a full-time ceramic artist.
The episode is called Finding Hope After Broken Dreams. And I’m thinking it’s one most of us can relate to?
In 2014, Matthew navigated the disorienting grief of divorce. He shares openly about this journey and how it was an issue he was unable to solve—all he could do was walk through it. Yet Jesus was patient and compassionate along the way. Nothing had changed between them, even during a two to three-year season that felt consumed by sadness.
“Healing is more possible than we think, but it takes so much longer than we expect,” shares Matthew. “And so, most people don’t keep going. They give up too soon.”
We also talked about God’s dream for this world, which is the theme of Matthew’s third book and album in The Well trilogy—Where the River Goes.
This was one of my favorite conversations so far! It’s also a timely message for the Lenten season as we draw closer to Holy Week and the glory that is Easter. I hope you’re encouraged by it.
If you feel inspired, please check out Matthew’s website to learn how to support his art and ministry as a patron. Where the River Goes, the final chapter in his book and album trilogy, releases on April 17.
Have a restful weekend!
With love,
Bailey
